St Lucia Facts
St Lucia South Africa Wetland Park - Isimangaliso is situated on the east coast of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa about 275 km North of Durban. It is South Africa's third-largest protected area, spanning 280 kilometres of coastline, from the Mozambican border in the north to Mapelane south of the St Lucia estuary, and made up of around 3,280kms of pristine natural ecosystems, managed by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife.

The Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Park

The adjoining big 5 Game reserves of Hluhluwe/Imfolozi cover an area of 90 000 Hectares & is the oldest Game Reserve in Africa with the noted distinction of being the place where the white Rhino was saved from extinction. These world renowned Parks have the largest population of Rhino in the world. The terrain is also mountainous with rivers & valleys, all year green trees & bush which abound in birdlife. The Parks can be daytripped from St. Lucia or from the Hluhluwe area if you are not fortunate to get a reservation in the park itself. Hippo charms St Lucia tourists

A young hippo has become an attraction at the KwaZulu-Natal coastal town of St Lucia since she decided to graze on grass near holiday apartments, SABC radio news reports.   Named Sandy by residents, the creature had so far resisted attempts to be captured.   Conservation authorities have warned that although she appeared tame, people should treat Sandy as a dangerous, wild animal.
